    Feature

This type of trailer coupling activates the mechanical or hydraulic brakes on trailers via override principle. Brakes are a legal requirement on trailers and caravans with a GTM of more than 750kg. As the driver breaks the tow vehicle, the inertial force of the trailer against the coupling compresses a spring within the coupling. This force triggers the brakes. Brake-override couplings generally include a handbrake to lock the brakes in place when the trailer is unhitched from the towing vehicle.

Override brake coupling normally suited to a 50mm Australian Standard tow ball, where the brake system requires activation from a sliding or overrun coupling.

    Q & A

    1. Q; What’s the size of my tow ball?

A: 50mm is the most common size which is 50m Diameter. 50mm ball couplings used on trailers with an

ATM that does not exceed 3.5 tonnes must comply with Australian Standard AS 4177.3-2004

70mm tow ball carry up to 6000kg.

    2. Q: Can I weld the coupling?

A: Check the stamped on the coupling.

           the words ‘DO NOT WELD’ mean the coupling body is manufactured from non-weldable materials;

the words ‘WELD ONLY’ mean the coupling body is specifically designed to be attached by welding only

    3. Q: How can I choose the right coupling

A: To select a suitable coupling, consider the following

      What brakes are being used.

Fixed none brake coupling, Overrider hydraulic brake coupling, Override mechanical brake coupling, Fixed electric brake coupling

      What’s the maximum load

      750kg, 1000kg, 2000kg, 3500kg, 4500kg, 6000kg

Do you need 50mm tow ball or Ring attachment.

50mm tow ball, 70mm tow ball, ring,

Any specific application? Off Road, Commercial, Anti-sway, Etc.

    4. Q: What’s the difference on surface finished.

A: Painted--Paint is the most commonly used material to protect steel, suit for all painted trailer

Zinc--Plating is a surface covering in which a metal is deposited on a conductive surface. used to decorate

objects, for corrosion inhibition, to improve solder ability, to harden, to improve wearability, to reduce

friction, to improve paint adhesion, to alter conductivity, to improve IR reflectivity, for radiation shielding,

           and for other purposes.

Galvanised--It is the process of coating iron and steel with a layer of zinc by immersing the metal in a bath

of molten zinc at a temperature of around 840 °F (449 °C). Galvanized steel is corrosion resistance is

needed. Suit for all marine stuff.

    5. Q: What’s the difference between fixed and override coupling

A: Override or overrun coupling use for a braking system that use an override principal. The coupling has a

sliding shaft attached to the tow ball housing of the coupling.

Fixed coupling with fixed body only.
